Project summary for 2001-AH-FX-1001 (S-1)

The purpose of this program is to reduce underage drinking by expanding the number of communities taking a comprehensive approach to the problem, with a special emphasis on increasing law enforcement activity with regard to the sale of alcohol to minors. The program will also develop and implement strategies that coordinate State-level planning and program activity (OJJDP block grant funds of $360,000) with community program activities developed under theis effort.

The program is to enhance an underage drinking coalition in each comprehensive community program, with a special emphasis on increasing law enforcement participation; ensure that there is a local EUDL program coordinator;and develop a strategic plan to direct EUDL program activity in each comprehensive community program based on a local needs assessment that deals with underage drinking. The program is to increase enforcement commitment and involvement as an integral part of the program to enforce underage drinking laws and encourage youth leadership and participation in planning and program activities. The program is to develop a training and technical assistance strategy for the selected local sites, in collaboration with the OJJDP-funded training and technical assistance, and develop and implement a data collection strategy, in collaboration with OJJDP-funded evaluation, to determine effectiveness of the efforts to decrease underage access and consumption of alcohol.
