The Appropriations Act of 2001, December, 2000, Public Law 106-553, appropriated $12.5 million for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to support and enhance tribal effortd for comprehensive delinquency prevention and control and for juvenile justice system improvement for Native American youth. Tribal communities will address the problem of juvenile crime by undertaking one or more of the following:
* Reduce, control, and prevent crime and delinquency both by and
and against tribal youth.
* Provide interventions for court-involved tribal youth.
* Improve tribal juvenile justice systems.
* Provide prevention programs focusing on alcohol and drugs.
