Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $516,620)

This award will support the development of the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force in Virginia's 10th Congressional District. The primary goal of this task force during this grant period will be gang suppression with integrated educational aspects. In addition to concentrated gang suppression activities, gathering and disseminating gang intelligence information will be a central function of this Task Force. Task force members will educate fellow officers, school personnel, community members, and other criminal justice professionals about gang identification and appropriate responses to rising gang problems. The Task Force will include local law enforcement representatives from Fairfax County, Prince William County, Loudoun County, Leesburg, Herndon, Manassas City, and Manassas Park. The Task Force will collaborate with the Offices of the Commonwealth's Attorneys, juvenile and adult probation and parole, and federal law enforcement agencies such as FBI, ATF, INS, and the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
