The Youth Challenge Course (Course) is an opportunity for youth who live in high-risk environments or have a presence in the juvenile justice system to improve their problem solving skills and tactics and develop positive skills. The target population are high risk youth residing in social and economically depressed neighborhoods in Detroit and Highland Park, Michigan. The participants will be referred from juvenile justice, law enforcement and education.
The principle objective of the program is to provide participants with leadership skills and promote personal responsibility. Additionally,the program provides positive decision making that allows youth to learn to resist negative peer choices. The program will reduce recidivism of adjuduicated youth, reduce the use or desire to use alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and abstain from violence, sex, and gang membership. NCA/NCF
