Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $5,000,000)

This project will continue and enhance training and technical assistance to support the National AMBER Alert Program. Specific project activities include enhancing the AMBER Alert network; increasing and improving law enforcement response to missing, endangered and abducted children; increasing the recovery rate of abducted children; strengthening child alert systems in Indian Country; facilitating the return of US children abducted to Canada, Mexico and other countries; creating greater community understanding of broader issues related to exploitation and abuse of children; and enhancing public participation in the recovery of missing, endangered and abducted children. The project will provide training programs; a national symposium; and distance learning and technical assistance to law enforcement leaders, first responders, forensic evidence professionals, child protection non-profit organizations, broadcasters, AMBER Alert Coordinators, and other public safety/policy making professionals to improve their response to incidents of missing, endangered and abducted children.
