Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $300,000)

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The State of West Virginia's Division of Justice and Community Services plans to provide program funding to address the purchase and consumption of alcohol by minors through enforcement efforts, media campaign, and policy change. FY2011 EUDL funds will support the following program activities: statewide prevention advertising and/or education; coalition building; compliance checks; and public advertising campaigns. The effectiveness of the strategies will be measured by the collection of performance measurement data; analysis and comparison of impact data with statewide data collected by West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration and onsite programmatic visits.
