Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $750,000)

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) recognizes that preventing and ameliorating youth violence requires a shared framework to address the factors that impact violence and victimization at the individual, peer, family, community, and societal levels and promote child and youth well being. Grantees that work in partnership with OJJDP to address these issues benefit from targeted technical assistance, including enhanced peer-to-peer support, that enables them to reach their short- and long-term goals. This program is authorized pursuant to paragraphs (5) and (8) under the Juvenile Justice heading, and paragraph (12) under the State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance heading in the Department of Justice Appropriations Act, 2014, P.L.113-76: 128 Stat. 5, 62-5.

Development Services Group, Inc. (DSG) will use FY 14 Youth Violence Prevention Technical Assistance Program funds to implement a strategic approach for the provision of training and technical assistance (T&TA) to OJJDP's three signature programs for preventing and reducing youth violence: the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention, the Defending Childhood Initiative, and the Community-Based Violence Prevention program. DSG's approach is directed at strengthening the three OJJDP-funded programs and key community systems in public health, law enforcement, education, and child welfare. DSG aims to provide T&TA that is based on the science of what works and that also draws on the practical experiences of peers in multiple communities. DSG's strategic approach aims to strengthen and mobilize multiple community systems toward ensuring that the OJJDP-funded programs are able to make the kinds of systems change and resource commitments that lead to long-term, significant, and measurable reductions in youth violence.
