Southern Regional Children's Advocacy Center

The OJJDP FY 2019 Victims of Child Abuse Act (VOCA) Regional Children’s Advocacy Centers (RCAC) program provides funding to support four regional centers – one situated within each of the four U.S. Census regions – that (1) help to build and establish multidisciplinary teams, local programs, and state chapter organizations that respond to child abuse and neglect and (2) deliver training and technical assistance that strengthen existing multidisciplinary teams, programs, and state chapter organizations. This program is authorized pursuant to the Victims of Child Abuse Act, 34 U.S.C. §20303.

The purpose of the Southern Regional Children's Advocacy Center (SRCAC) project is to provide a full complement of training, technical assistance, and information services for developing and established multidisciplinary teams, local Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs), and state Chapter organizations of CACs. This project will focus on innovative development, delivery, and evaluation of services and working collaboratively with other VOCA programs to achieve its goals. The goals of this project are: 1) states and their communities will have access to quality training and technical assistance in assessing community readiness and in developing and strengthening the multidisciplinary approach to the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases; 2) multidisciplinary teams, CACs, and state Chapter organizations of CACs will have access to timely, relevant, and evidence-based publications and resources; 3) American Indian and Alaska Native children exposed to violence will receive a coordinated, multidisciplinary, and culturally appropriate response in both native and non-native communities; and 4) multidisciplinary team professionals, CAC staff, and state Chapter organizations will benefit from the combined resources available through the VOCA programs for training, technical assistance, and resources regarding a multidisciplinary approach to addressing child abuse.

The objectives for each of these goals cover a continuum of training and technical assistance developed to support the growth and improvement of coordinated multidisciplinary responses to child abuse. The training and technical assistance activities proposed for each objective target multidisciplinary teams, CACs, and state Chapter organizations and are composed of in-person trainings, online resources, onsite technical assistance, and resource development and distribution. The project is designed to leverage the quality technical assistance, training, resources, and relationships SRCAC has previously developed.
