Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $745,969)

This program will promote and expand services in detention and correctional facilities to incarcerated individuals and their minor children younger than age 18, and provide services to children of incarcerated parents by facilitating access to services that support their needs. This program will provide states and localities with funding to implement positive family engagement strategies and activities that address the needs of incarcerated parents and their minor children.

The County of Beaver will provide resources and opportunities for grant partners to establish protocols for visitation and provide family-friendly spaces. This grant will provide funds to reduce the monetary barrier for virtual visits at the Beaver County Jail and add space for the parent and child to converse. Program goals include strengthening parental relationships and reducing antisocial behaviors. The following services and individualized treatment will be offered: established protocols for visiting in a family-friendly room, virtual visitation, audio recording of a parent reading for their child, parent coaching, peer mentoring, education, and employment support.
