Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $745,969)
This program will promote and expand services in detention and correctional facilities to incarcerated individuals and their minor children younger than age 18, and provide services to children of incarcerated parents by facilitating access to services that support their needs. This program will provide states and localities with funding to implement positive family engagement strategies and activities that address the needs of incarcerated parents and their minor children.
The Harris County Sheriffs Office (HCSO) will use funding to strengthen the family system by connecting both the child and incarcerated parent(s) with healthy components in their environment. Cross-sector community partners will collaborate to identify and implement strategies and programs to support children and families. HCSO plans to expand existing programs for incarcerated individuals to include children, family, and community.
