Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $428,501)

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Supported activities and efforts may include planning and administration, establishing, operating, coordinating, and evaluating projects directly or through grants and contracts with public and private agencies for the development of more effective education, training, research, prevention, diversion, treatment, and rehabilitation programs in the area of juvenile delinquency and programs to improve the juvenile justice system as found in section 221 of the JJDP Act.

The State of South Dakota will utilize FY 2020 Title II Formula Grant funds consistent with federal requirements of the JJDP Act. South Dakota will allocate funds consistent with program purpose areas: Delinquency Prevention, Compliance Monitoring, Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders, Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC), Indian Tribe Programs, Jail Removal, Juvenile Justice System Improvement, Planning and Administration, Separation of Juveniles from Adult Inmates, and State Advisory Group.
