Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $993,518)

This project will expand upon the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice's (DJJ) 21st Century Illinois Transformation Plan, which divests from the adult prison model, transition youth to small, regional residential centers, and invests in community wraparound support and intervention services for justice-involved youth and their families, and victim services in communities that are disproportionately impacted by violence. The project will Identify and implement an evidence-based Trauma-Informed Care model for all DJJ staff; build out a new performance management team and structure to ensure that the Transformation Plan is driven by data and outcomes; establish a Victim Services Unit, with specialized training in victim services and restorative justice and a new Licensed Clinical Social Worker position to attend to victims’ behavioral health needs; and, create a Family Support Unit, providing family engagement training, with a new Licensed Clinical Social Worker to serve families.
