S.M.A.R.T. Girls will serve as an umbrella of services that embrace the individuality of the female offender by creating a myriad of services that address her unique needs in a setting that is conducive for her to flourish.  This will be accomplished through early assessment, individualized case planning, referral to appropriate services, evaluation of those services, and follow-up. S.M.A.R.T. Girls will target female youth referred to DeKalb County Juvenile Court between the ages of 12-17.

The overall goal is to increase awareness and knowledge in all areas of mental, physical, and emotional wellness that have a direct impact on female youth and decrease the factors that ultimately lead to further interaction with the juvenile justice system.  The curriculum incorporates creating positive self-images amongst participants; developing self-esteem; awareness of sexual health; violence prevention; identifying positive role models and character traits; building confidence; making good decisions and choices, preventing teen domestic violence; establishing healthy relationships and boundaries; identifying talents and goals; physical and mental wellness and planning for their future. S.M.A.R.T. Girls will successfully close the gaps in services provided to females and help them to emerge as strong, motivated, achieving, responsible, trendsetting girls.
