Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $702,864)

Volunteers of America of Los Angeles (VOALA) will use funding to improve public safety by implementing a program to identify, assess, treat and support youth and their families impacted by opioid and other substance use disorders. The goals and objectives include improving health outcomes and providing diversion from criminal justice involvement for at-risk youth under age 18, improving stability, and facilitating individual case planning for those who are impacted by substance use disorder through the provision of case management and wraparound support services using Positive Youth Development, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care. Additionally, the applicant received priority consideration by including policies, practices, and /or procedures in response to DOJ priorities and details of how the project will benefit those in high-poverty areas.
