Project Abstract

 

 

The New Hampshire State Advisory Group will continue to focus their efforts on the program purpose area # 21, disproportionate minority contact/racial ethnic disparities through training law enforcement on the Effective Police Interactions with Youth and the Mirror Project.  They will also work with urban, rural, highway and State Police on the development of a Motor Vehicle Project video for young drivers.   

 

The SAG will continue to  provide training assistance on the Bias Awareness training to groups who has contact with juveniles, from community-based stakeholders to the judiciary. Included in this training will also be business, mental health, medical professionals as well, since all of these groups have an impact on the outcome of the interaction and success of youth.

 

Additional funding will be used to support local community programming t, with an emphasis on rural communities.  By focusing on early prevention, the likelihood of reducing youth from entering the system will decrease.

 

The SAG will also begin to research the mental health services in NH.  Focus groups will be held to educate the mental health community and youth about the connection between delinquency and mental health.  The Vera Institute will also be contact to help guide the SAG on this subject.

 

The SAG will also explore the benefits of increasing the age of majority in the State.
