II. Project Title:   

           

                        OJJDP FY 2021 Title II Formula Grants Program    

 

 

Project Goal:  

 

To Ensure juveniles held in the American Samoa Juvenile Center receive justified due process in the Justice system.

 

To Continue and Establish innovative rehabilitation programs for juveniles in the Juvenile Center

 

To Evaluate policies, procedures and projects implemented in the Juvenile center ensuring the youth are receiving the appropriate services.

To legally collect necessary information compling data for reporting, research and future reference. 

 

Strategies:

 

The Juvenile Justice System in American Samoa operates under the Department of Public Safety with support from the Criminal Justice Planning Agency. The Department of Public Safety provides guards on duty ensuring the safety of the juveniles held at the detention center. The Department of Education provide teachers so students are receiving mandated instructional time while they are in the center. Rehabilitation counseling are provided by the Department of Human Social Services. Certain approved community services are welcomed on a certain schedule and upon counsel or judge discretion. The goal is to steer juveniles into a law-abiding citizen path so they may NOT enter the system later on as adults.
