Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $20,508)

The purpose of Mississippi's 2021 and 2022 Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) efforts are to provide update/current educational and training materials for youth and their parents. Youth will receive the appropriate PREA resources at intake/orientation. These updated/current materials will contain information that youth will use to help prevent victimization in the correctional/prison setting. Oakley staff, who serve youth at the facility will be provided updated/current materials for bringing awareness to the issue of sexual misconduct in secure confinement to ensure youth are informed. These educational resources will offer up-to-date information and services to effectively respond to victimization by enhancing the knowledge among detained youth and their parents. The goal of the state is to produce a zero-tolerance environment void of sexual misconduct and sexual harassment. Progress will be measured through both qualitative and quantitative analysis. No PREA funds will be used for the purpose of conducting research at this time.
