Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2001, $489,620)

The Fort Belknap Community Council will utilize the implementation funds to serve nonviolent tribal youth and their family members residing within the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. Approximately thirty juveniles will enter the program as part of a deferred prosecution or post-adjudication agreement. The length of the program is 36 months. The goals of the Fort Belknap Community Council are to reduce recidivism, redirect the tribal youths' abuse of alcohol, drugs and inhalants and guide them to a healthier lifestyle. The program will incorporate both western and native traditional methods of educational development, therapy and life skills enhancement.
