Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2001, $499,605)
The Lawrence County Circuit Court will use grant funds to implement a drug court ("REDIRECT" program) for male and female nonviolent, substance abusing juvenile offenders. The post-adjudication drug court will serve 30 - 40 juveniles and their family members each year during the grant period. The principal goal of the program will be to redirect children's and families' lives away from a substance based existence by implementing a strengths-based program of closely monitored in-home therapeutic family treatment, group therapy, and one-on-one substance abuse treatment, combined with intensive probation and court imposed sanctions and incentives by a designated Drug Court Juvenile Referee. Program success will be measured through: a reduction in positive drug screens; a lower incidence of truancy; lower use of detention and placement facilities; higher high school graduation or GED completion rates; minimization of contact with the legal system by drug court participants, siblings, and other family members; and higher employment rates for the juveniles and their families.
