Project summary for 2001-JG-FX-0011
The Aguante Project will be a family based, community centered mentoring program for at-risk Latino students from Omaha's inner city. The project will support academic and personnel mentoring by students enrolled in a nationally recognized scholarships program of 3rd and 4rd grade students from Field Club Elementary School. This urban project is aimed at reducing violence, gang violence, raising aspirations for higher educational experiences and building community strengths for children at Field Club Elementary. A unique aspect of the project will include a partnership with the Goodrich scholarship program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the Latino children. The children will be matched with available Goodrich Scholars from UNO. Many of these scholars are from this area, and understand the unique situations that these children face in their young lives.
