The Boys & Girls Aid Society of Oregon has assumed the operations of the Committed Partners for Youth (CPY) mentoring program. This program will continue to target middle-school students in an underserved part of Portland. The program is designed to reduce the dropout rate of students at Lane Middle School and improve participant academic performance by helping them strengthen their capacity, articulate dreams for the future, understand the role of education, and provide the support of an adult mentor. The program will also improve mentee relationships with peers, family, and other adults by equipping the youth with effective communication skills and helping them understand how to take personal responsibility for their actions.
The youth and mentors begin the program with a four-day activity where they face physical challenges like ropes courses and problem-solving exercises. CA/NCF
