Project Summary for 2001-JN-FX-0099 S-1

The Action Community Team for a Drug-Free Stephens County (A.C.T.) is a community-based coalition that has been active in collaborative efforts to address alcohol and other drug use since 1989. The coalition will continue to work toward the goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening collaboration. A.C.T.'s focus will be on increasing the community's awareness of substance abuse problems and strengthening ownership in prevention among community residents. Coalition initiatives will be based on identified community risk factors, including economic and social deprivation, low neighborhood attachment and community disorganization, and community laws and norms favorable toward alcohol and other drug use. Planned initiatives include drug-free events for youth and families, prevention workshops, and a red ribbon campaign. A.C.T. will continue to hold monthly networking meetings of all anti-drug programs, service providers, clubs, and organizations. The purpose of these meeting is to share information on initiatives, strengthen collaboration among organizations and groups, and eliminate duplication of efforts.
