Mountain Communities Supporting Education acts as the fiscal agent for the Flood Brook Community Collaborative Coalition. The coalition serves the rural counties of Windsor, Windham, and Bennington, VT, with a combined population of approximately 2,918. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) disseminate information to successfully familiarize the community with the coalition's goals and objectives;
2) organize a variety of education strategies to include school-based prevention curricula, parenting support programs, peer leadership and mentor training;
3) work in tandem with school clinicians and prevention specialists to implement a pre-teen referral program;
4) partner with statewide agencies, including the Department of Liquor Control, Vermont Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Office, and Green Mountain Prevention Projects, to provide numerous prevention education programs; and
5) receive large, in-kind donations to support substance-free recreational and asset development strategy that enables the coalition to access a substantial number of school children for prevention programming. ca/ncf
