PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 95-WF-NX-4001
This is a re-award to the State of Alabama.

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is set out in Title IV of ì
the Violence Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, ì
Public Law No. 103-322, 108 Stat. 1796 (Sept. 13, 1994). The STOP ì
(Services*Training*Officers*Prosecutors) Violence Against Women ì
Formula Grant Program authorizes FY 1995 Federal financial ì
assistance to States for developing and strengthening effective ì
law enforcement and prosecution strategies and victim services in ì
cases involving violent crimes against women.

The State will develop strategies and establish innovative ì
approaches to deal with violence against women through funding ì
for victim services and strengthening law enforcement and ì
prosecution efforts. This will involve the collaboration of ì
police, prosecutors, the courts, and victim services providers. ì
Projects may support personnel, prosecution, and adjudication of ì
persons committing violent crimes against women. This grant will ì
allow States and localities to restructure and strengthen the ì
criminal justice system's response to be proactive in addressing ì
violence against women, drawing on the experience of all the ì
participants in the system, including the advocacy community.
