At-risk youth education program.

The Research Foundation project seeks to expand the College's involvement in Kings County's at-risk youth population to address the area's high juvenile delinquency rate. The College will institutionalize its partnership with Passages Academy, a local high school program that educates 4,000 court-referred youth at secure and non-secure sites. The project's primary objective will be to increase success of at-risk youth by providing educational opportunities and alternative paths, and will include mentoring and academic enrichment. It is anticipated that 100 youth will be served over a one year period, and the project will hold a mini-conference on campus for at-risk youth, partners, and the community. The overall goals and objectives of the project are 1) Mentoring activities for at-risk youth (100 at-risk youth will receive mentoring from students and faculty at the College); 2) Introduction to college and/or career opportunities for at-risk youth (100 at-risk youth will receive an introduction to college and/or career opportunity information); and 3) Academic Enrichment Mini-Conference (200 At-risk youth will participate in an academic enrichment activity, mini-conference on campus).NCA/NCF
