Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $281,467)

The Institute for Student Achievement (ISA) is an intermediary for 32 partner schools that provide college preparatory curriculum to at-risk, predominantly low-income, inner-city, minority high school students. A best practices rubric will be developed that will provide the framework for effective extended day/year programs. Six pilot sites will be chosen to implement it. Effectiveness will be measured by the number of students participating and through surveys and focus group discussions. Modifications will be made after the end of the pilot and the rubric will be used to strengthen programs at all ISA schools during 2006-2007.
