Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $98,723)

The purpose of this project is to prevent juvenile delinquency and youth contact with the juvenile justice system. The Project will include: (1) building stronger relationships among AMISTAD, the New Haven Public Schools, and youth's agencies such as LEAP in New Haven to engage more at-risk youth in positive youth development and leadership activities; and (2) provinding youth with a greater understanding of their cultural heritage and to introduce them to positive role models. The target population to be served will be at least 250 at-risk youth, ages 11-15 in the City of New Haven who are in danger of contact with the juvenile justice system. Integral Evaluation, LLC will serve as the Project's external evaluating agency to conduct evaluations for program services.
