Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $205,000)

The purpose of the Gang Free Schools and Communities Project is to reduce gang-related violent crime and gang involvement in the Greater East End community. This project also intends to alleviate community fear of gang violence, improve early identification, assessment and intervention with gang-involved youth and offer prosocial opportunities. It targets 100 predominantly Hispanic male and female youth ages 15-24, who are known or suspected members of the most active gangs in the Greater East End. They are criminally involved or at high risk for gang involvement. The implementation plan is based on the five strategies of the Comprehensive Gang Model. NCA/NCF
