Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $300,000)
Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs proposes to reduce negative risk factors for tribal youth to improve the well-bring of individuals, families, and the tribal environment. Through collaboration with Tribal Youth-serving departments the project seeks to reduce the juvenile arrest and recidivism rates while creating and maintaining a positive connection between youth, community, and schools. The primary objectives of this program are as follows: (1) Utilizing a youth assessment tool to identify risk and protective factors to gauge the effectiveness of program services; (2) Strengthening collaboration of Tribal youth serving departments to reinforce protective factors, and reduce risk factors; (3) Implementing modern and traditional interventions for court involved youth (such as Family Court, Youth Court, Community Sweat Project, Tribal Youth Dry Shed, Gender specific Groups); and (4) Providing cognitive training, crime prevention assessment training, and motivational interviewing to Tribal Youth program staff. The following performance measures will be used to gauge progress: Tribal Court arrest/recidivism rates of youth and grades/attendance within the school district. CA/NCF
