Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $424,625)
The Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks and Baltimore's Safe & Sound Campaign will develop and implement Baltimore Youth Apprenticeship Program (BYAP)-Green, an environment/conservation program focused on youth apprenticeship, job placement, and peer-to-peer mentoring. The program will serve 125 youth, age 14-18, from the communities of Southern Park Heights, Southwest Baltimore, and Madison/East End/Patterson Park. BYAP-Green will train participants in conservation activities and empower them to teach these skills to peers and younger youth in Recreation Centers. Progress will be measured by the number of youth who complete program requirements, participate in clubs and community engagement activities, increased youth and family resiliency, and a reduction in the number of participants offend or re-offend.
