Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $536,609)

The goal of the Derek Jeter Center at Phoenix House, an outpatient counseling center, is to increase specialized treatment available to adolescents in order to promote long-term recovery from substance abuse. The Center has provided individual, group, and family counseling, for more than three years now and has served just over three hundred teens each year. The Youth Recovery Project will provide 'recovery management' services to adolescents who complete treatment in Hillsborough County. The primary goal of the project will be to help youth fully engage in a comprehensive recovery program that is well-suited to their specialized needs. By maintaining a relationship with successful treatment completers, Phoenix House can forge a helping alliance with these youth and promote long-term recovery careers. The program will report performance measures that include increase in recovery support services, increased engagement in recovery support services, increased use of recovery skills, and percent in program completion.
