The Haines Tribal Youth Program will address Category 1 : Provide prevention services to impact the risk factors for delinquency. The program will develop a comprehensive prevention plan and implement culturally-relevant prevention services for tribal youth in Haines. Both community and school based programs will be developed. The project will utilize five strategies or emphasis areas to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency and substance use. The program will focus on achieving two goals: 1) Build the capacity of Chilkoot Indian Association and community partners to assess needs, develop a comprehensive prevention plan and implement effective programs to prevent juvenile delinquency and substance use among tribal youth; and 2) Implement culturally relevant prevention programs to impact risk factors for delinquency and substance use among tribal youth ages 5-17 in Haines. The Haines TYP will focus on programs that involve partnerships and collaborations and can be sustained over time. Programs to be considered including life skill's curriculum, mentoring and apprenticeship programs, Culture Circles, Safe Schools Ambassadors Project, Next Generation Warriors, and Project Venture.
