Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $400,000)

The Camp Nikoti Tribal Youth Program proposes to support and enhance tribal efforts for comprehensive delinquency prevention and education for Native American youth in the community. The Camp Nikoti Program will focus on category 1, providing prevention services to impact risk factors for delinquency. The Camp Nikoti Tribal Youth Program will serve all tribal juveniles from the ages of 12 to 17 years of age. Tribal youth in the program will receive education related to drugs, alcohol, and life skills to promote positive awareness of one's self, while decreasing and impacting risk factors for delinquency and early involvement in drugs and alcohol. Tribal youth will participate in an after-school weekly program and a summer day camp. The project will serve 250 juveniles who are identified with drug/alcohol related problems, mental health issues, and/or school failure and academic difficulty. CA/NCF
