Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $400,000)

The San Pasqual Band of Digueño Mission Indians will provide prevention services to positively impact risk factors linked to delinquency on the reservation. There are 429 members of the San Pasqual Tribe of which at least 30 percent live in poverty, substance abuse is common, and academic performance of tribal youth is below average. This tribal youth project will provide prevention/intervention services to approximately 50 adolescent tribal youth ages 13-18 living on the reservation. San Pasqual's afterschool prevention program and substance abuse prevention program will include leadership training, mentoring, healthy lifestyle activities, substance abuse prevention, and career and college exploration. Cultural values will be infused through all aspects of the program. The tribe will report on mandatory OJJDP Tribal Youth Program performance measures. CA/NCF
