Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $200,000)

Through the Byrne Congressionally Mandated Awards program, the Office of Justice Programs helps communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and supports training and technical assistance programs and other efforts that strategically target local needs. This program is authorized to organizations identified in the Conference Report to accompany the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2010.

Using OJJDP funds, the Covenant House will increase the visibility of its 24 hour support hotline ("the Nineline") through the distribution of promotional materials via Covenant Houses existing Street Outreach Teams in New York City. Covenant House will also increase staff at the Nineline so that that resource may be more accessible to trafficking victims. Finally, Covenant House will train staff to handle cases where callers have been victims of human trafficking. NCA/NCF
