Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $500,000)

The OJJDP FY 10 Earmarks Program furthers the Department's mission by providing grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, to organizations identified in the Conference Report to accompany the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2010 (P.L. 111-117), H.R. Conf. Rep. No. 111-366 at 702-714.

The goal of the Mobius project is to improve the quality and quantity of local mentoring programs in Chittenden County, Vermont to ensure that the area youth will benefit from the power of mentoring. To achieve this goal, the Preventing Juvenile Delinquency through Mentoring in Vermont project will work to increase the number of mentors in the community through a comprehensive public awareness and volunteer recruitment campaign. The project will also work to improve existing and new mentoring programs by helping partner groups raise funds, train staff, recruit and train volunteers, and ensure best practices are understood and implemented. Progress will be measured by tracking the number of mentor matches in the county, tracking the number of mentoring programs maintained or created, and tracking the time spent providing direct technical support to programs as well as the nature of the support provided.
