Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $12,500)

The Title V Community Prevention Grants Program intends to reduce risks and enhance protective factors to prevent at-risk youth from entering the juvenile justice systems and to intervene with first-time and non-serious offenders to keep them out of the juvenile justice system.

The American Samoa Criminal Justice Planning Agency (CJPA) is the Designated State Agency that administers Title II, Title V, and JABG funding for the territory. The Office of Justice Programs has determined that CJPA is a high risk grantee, thus certain additional special conditions have been added to this award. American Samoa plans to provide an active summer youth program for at least 300 adolescents over the next three years. American Samoa will partner with the Department of Parks and Recreation to implement this program. The summer program will also provide educational sessions that will focus on healthy diets and exercise.
