The FY 2016 Smart on Juvenile Justice: Reducing Out-of-Home Placement program will strengthen and expand the use of community-based alternatives to out-of-home placement and minimize approaches based solely on control and deterrence in favor of individualized treatment and services.

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice will strengthen and expand the use of community-based alternatives to out-of-home placement. It will also subgrant funds to local non- profit agencies and/or local units of government to provide alternatives to secure detention for juveniles who are released from law enforcement custody with supervision, or who are in violation of a valid court order and have probation violations. Subgrants will include funding to support emergency shelters and evening reporting centers. The services will be located in the Fayette and Lincoln Village Regional Juvenile Detention Catchment areas.
