Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $889,230)
The Drug Treatment Courts Program builds the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments to enhance pre-existing drug courts or implement new drug courts for individuals with substance abuse problems or co-occurring mental health disorders. Category 2: Family Drug Courts Enhancement will support jurisdictions with a fully operational (for at least 1 year) family drug court to enhance the operation of the court.
The mission of the Bexar County Family Drug Court is to reunify children with parents who are sober, healthy, and responsible. Pursuant to that mission, the Family Drug Court seeks to enhance its program by offering: (1) a standardized, evidence-based intake process; (2) Celebrating Families! evidence-based treatment for the families and residential treatment for the parents; (3) training and technical assistance opportunities for the Family Drug Court staff; and, (4) a program evaluation. Bexar County will also create a standardized, evidence-based intake process that includes a screening and assessment tool with psychometric properties that allow for data collection, management, analysis, interpretation and reporting.
