Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $500,000)

The OJJDP Delinquency Prevention Program focuses on helping youth avoid involvement in delinquency through reducing risk factors and enhancing protective factors in their schools, communities, and families. Category 2 supports the development and implementation of programs that address the needs of tribal youth. Funding will be used to enhance responses to juvenile delinquency in tribal communities.

The Aroostook Micmac Council proposes to work with the Boys & Girls Club of Border Towns (BGC-BT) to implement an evidence-based prevention curriculum to support the prevention and intervention of substance abuse, delinquency, and suicidal behavior among Native youth and provide culturally appropriate strategies to cope with trauma. The goal of the Aroostook Band of Micmac and BGC-BT is to reduce youth exposure to crime and facilitate collaboration among community and state agencies to support youth as they transition to adulthood. The targeted population is at-risk youth ages 12 to 17. CA/NCF
