Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $500,000)

The Juvenile Justice System Enhancements program will support efforts to enhance systems that address public safety by holding offenders accountable and supporting child victims. This includes the juvenile justice system as well as those agencies responsible for investigating and prosecuting online child exploitation.

To reduce reoffending, the Hamilton County Juvenile Court (HCJC) proposes to conduct a data-driven assessment of all aspects of the county's juvenile justice system. This data analysis will help HCJC and other county agencies identify barriers and gaps in system functioning with the goal of developing, implementing, testing, and ultimately sustaining research-based responses to improve public safety and outcomes for youth. HCJC will collaborate with the Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center to conduct the data analysis, including examining case-level data on arrests, referrals to court, diversion, detention, dispositions to probation and out-of-home-placement, and services and sanctions.
