Abstract
At the National Mentoring Summit, the OJJDP Acting Administrator Eileen M. Garry announced OJJDP's awarding of $770 million in grants for mentoring programs, mentoring-related research, and training and technical assistance since 2008. On January 20, 2017, OJJDP Deputy Administrator Eileen M Garry was named Acting Administrator of OJJDP after just over 20 years of leadership at the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs. On February 12-15, 2017, OJJDP staff provided overviews of several of OJJDP's justice reform initiatives during the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judge's annual National Conference on Juvenile Justice. On December 6-7, 2016, representatives from OJDDP-funded tribal youth programs met to share information with their peers and learn from experts in the fields of youth development, trauma-informed care, and juvenile justice as a part of the OJJDP National Tribal Youth Conference. A discussion of OJJDP's longstanding commitment to combating the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children features the work of OJJDP's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force program, established in 1998 to help State and local law enforcement agencies develop effective responses to technology-facilitated crimes against children. Building on 30 years of mentoring experience in support of at-risk girls, Girls Inc., is expanding its capacity to help more girls cope with violence and trauma with a $2 million grant through OJJDP.
