Feature articles focus on various activities and programs being promoted by the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), and an overview of recent OJJDP publications is provided, along with recent news related to OJJDP's mission.

Abstract

The lead article reports on OJJDP's awarding of approximately $300 million in grants in Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. Other "Special Features" present an overview of OJJDP's Intervention Division; OJJDP's training for state personnel on core requirements for an effective juvenile justice system; OJJDP's Reentry Guide for Youth after release from secure facilities; and activities for Native American Heritage Month (November 2018). There is also a brief description of the background and current work of Will Bronson, who is OJJDP's Deputy Associate Administrator and Operations Manager. A report on recent OJJDP research presents data on the characteristics, risk factors, and protective factors for children with incarcerated parents. Other featured presentations address Guam's Family Recovery Program and upcoming events. The "News in Brief" section focuses on a panel on child sex trafficking presented at a police conference. Other news pertains to a podcast series on juvenile justice research, a National Tribal Youth Conference, opening of the application period for Tribal Youth grants, data use by juvenile justice practitioners, runaway prevention, and the release of juvenile court statistics for 2016. New OJJDP publications address drivers of the effective implementation of risk and needs assessments and juvenile arrest statistics for 2016. News from the Coordinating Council is also provided..
